Abstract

Essential thrombocythaemia (ET) is an acquired thrombophilic condition. Though it is more common in elderly females, about 20% are in the child bearing age giving rise to the possibility of ET complicating pregnancy. In the few reported cases, majority were managed with Interferon-a (INF-a), reflecting its efficacy and low toxicity in pregnancy. We present a case report of ET complicating pregnancy which was successfully managed with pegylated interferon (PEG-IFN) PEGIFNa2a, which has a longer half life and less side effects.
